the 'to' in the last line is interesting; as if bringing someone back is something which is 'done to them', rather than negotiated, etc o_o|| it was surprising to read that at the end :o!
Very kind of you! I think it's one of the better ones I've written recently, but that's not saying much...!
I can't say there was too much forethought into the 'to' at the end, but I think it was implicitly part of the lament, for the reasons you said. In fact there wasn't too much forethought into any of the lines, it's sort of like a sentence with internal rhyme that really suggested itself :)
